Herbs and essential oils can be wonderful to ease pregnancy and post-partum discomforts. You may want to research some of the following.

Peppermint may be helpful for nausea and increasing energy. Please note peppermint should be used with caution or not at all during the post-partum phase as it can inhibit milk supply.

Lavender and Serenity* may be helpful for relaxation and comfort.

Balance* may help for maintaining focus and staying relaxed and grounded.

Citrus Bliss* and Wild Orange may be helpful in decreasing anxiety and uplifting moods.

Clary Sage may help strengthen pressure waves (clary sage should not be used during pregnancy).

How to choose an essential oil brand
I’ve used essential oils for over 10 years and have found some wonderful brands. Unfortunately many of the oils available in stores, even those labeled 100% pure are substandard and unsuitable for therapeutic use. The essential oil industry is largely self-regulated and it is common for some companies to add ingredients to “stretch” their oils, diluting them with oils from other plants or even synthetics. Additionally, essential oils are natural products and their potency and chemical components are the result of where they were grown, how and when they were harvested and how they were distilled.  As a result, there can be a huge difference between the Lavender of one brand and the Lavender of another, for example.

I like doTERRA because they are sticklers for quality. They test every single batch of oil for purity and potency. Additionally, they source their oils from regions throughout the world to ensure the highest quality oils. The results speak for themselves – high quality, pure, potent oils!

Raspberry Leaf has long been considered a uterine tonic and is high in calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamins B, C, and E. Although it tastes fine on its own, it is often added to “pregnancy teas” along with other delicious herbs. One such tea is Fecundi Tea by Mountain Rose Herbs.
